Two Thousand and Eleven, It’s Been Lovely

In two thousand and eleven I…

…started a blog! Never before in my life did I have the intention of writing and then sharing my writing with anyone and everyone on the internet. However, I’ve ended up absolutely loving it, and I credit my blog along with other blogs I read for being the fuel behind two thousand and eleven’s greatness!

…started out the year with a four mile race, Love 2 Run, in February. My blog wasn’t born yet so I wasn’t here to tell you about it, but I did PR (it was only the third race I’d ever done before in my life, and the second time in this race) with a time of 35:15.

…ran my first 10K…then my second 10K…then my third 10K…each one with a PR!

…trained my dog to give high-fives.

won a local race! It was a small 5K race…a very very small race, since I won with a stopwatch time of 25:09. Nonetheless I won an awesome trophy, and it was for a super great cause to support a local little girl with osteosarcoma. The same little girl who happens to be my Make-A-Wish wish kid and who is a huge inspiration to anyone who knows her.

…greatly improved my body image.

didn’t get into nursing school.

got into nursing school!

…ran my first half marathon, which happened to be my one really big goal that I wanted to achieve this year! I also had a secret goal of running it in less than two hours…which I also achieved with a time of 1:59.10!

went to Mexico with all my amigos!

…was a blonde for awhile. Literally, not figuratively. Well, maybe both.

…ran my second half marathon and PRed with a time of 1:52.52.

…got my husband to run a 5K with me…and my mom, sister, and stepdad! It was for the Susan G. Komen race in Kansas City, obviously a great cause, especially considering my mom kicked breast cancer’s booty.

…coached middle school volleyball with some of the sweetest girls I’ve ever met!

tried mushrooms…grilled…and liked them.

…raised money for Girls on the Run as a SoleMate!

…ran a marathon. A MARATHON! A ridiculously hilly but beautiful nonetheless twenty-six point two miles all over Kansas City, Missouri, and I loved every single second of it…all four hours and fifteen minutes! I set out the year with hopes of finishing a half marathon…what I didn’t know was that I was going to fall in love with running. Once my half was completed in April I knew I needed more! Never before in my life did I imagine I’d run a marathon, but crossing that finish line was the proudest moment of my life.

This year has been amazing. However, it wouldn’t have been nearly as great had I not walked into the women’s restroom back in February and discovered a little post-it note on the mirror that said, “You are beautiful.” That’s when I discovered Operation Beautiful and the entire world of blogging…a world of inspiration, motivation, and support from some pretty amazing people.

Two thousand and eleven, it’s been lovely.

Bloggie-Housekeeping

Oh my goodness! Life has been pretty hectic since Mexico!

(I borrowed this picture from my BFF Heather…thanks girl! I haven’t even had time to upload my own photos yet!)

The vacation was absolutely wonderful! I promise there will be more pictures to come!

However, I have been a bad, bad blogger! It’s just that everything has been a whirlwind since we returned…first Father’s Day (love you Pops, and Pops-in-law, and Rob), then being sick (they say don’t drink the water in Mexico…but what do you do when you’re thirsty?!), then the hubs and I immediately started moving into our new duplex because I could not stay one more night in the presence of a million spiders at the old place. I’m not exaggerating either…I’m sure there were a million spiders there (okay, okay…more like seventy-three…but close enough, right?!) Anyway…I’m still not completely moved, still not completely unpacked (or even close to being unpacked), and the laundry is still piled to the ceiling. But, I wanted to get a quickie post in for a little “bloggie-housekeeping”, and because I miss “talking” to YOU, hearing from you, and reading your blogs, too!

First on my bloggie-housekeeping to-do list…THANK YOU for everyone who has purchased soaps from Soap It Up, Gourmet Soaps By Di to support my fundraising as a SoleMate for Girls on the Run! So far Soap It Up has raised $20.00 for Girls on the Run!

If you didn’t see my post earlier this month, Soap It Up is donating $1 for each bar of soap sold…and it has now been extended through July 15th! (My goal is to raise $100 from these delightful little soaps…I’m 20% there!) Please take advantage of this special because I PROMISE that you will ADORE these soaps. I recommend cherry, lemonade, red clover tea, cotton candy, or patchouli orange for that special muchacho in your life! You can smell delicious AND support preteen girls! Yes!!!

Number two on the bloggie-housekeeping chore list…I haven’t forgot about my book club!I’m sure you noticed that I missed the weekly book club post this Tuesday, but I will be making the next book club post next Tuesday. I brought my book the Mexico with me with hopes of reading on the plane or on the beach, but I became too engrossed with looking out the window at the clouds or playing (yes, playing…I’m like a child) in the sand. Also, half of the people reading the book with me were also in Mexico…and I didn’t notice any of you girls reading, either! So, anyway…book club next Tuesday…it’s a date!

Lastly on my housekeeping list…I just want to let everyone know how much I’ve missed you (and you and you and you!) Still, my posts and comments might be a little sporadic for a little while longer until I finish this moving business! Being on the beach for a week has given me so much inspiration on future blog posts, and I have several exciting things coming up in the future to write about!

…but for now, it’s late…(uh, I mean early?)…and my overuse of exclamation marks leads me to believe that I need to calm down and go to sleep!

xoxo, ang

Pre-Vacation…

In less than twenty-four hours I will be…
image
…in Mexico!

The hubs and I got in town yesterday morning for some pre-vacation festivities, starting off with a spray tan party for the girls! It was my first experience with a spray tan, and I was super nervous! (Pretty much anything makes me nervous…getting my hair done, getting a spray tan, the possibility of my nail polish chipping, running next to woods, the possibility of being bit by a shark….the list could go on and on.) I was in good company and after some talking, I decided to be brave and go for it! Haha…oh, the scary things in life.

After the tan, I took my sticky body shopping for last minute vacation items…flip flops, swimsuit cover, hat, and of course…
image
…a new KU shirt for the hubs! Shopping is always good! 🙂

After shopping we headed to the golf course for eighteen holes of fun and relaxation (well, fun and relaxation for me, but high stress for the hubby).
image
I must admit…I am not a very good golfer, but I like going and trying to be good! I usually only go a couple times a year, and yesterday was my first time since last summer.
image

I was pleasantly surprised! I really think that my strength training has totally helped my drive!

After golf we went to my in-laws and stayed the night…this morning I got in my long run of the week (13 miles!) with a girlfriend, painted my nails, and finished packing…which brings me to the present! I am blogging from my phone as I sit in the airport terminal!
image
(A beach bag doubles as a carry-on, right?!)

And folks, (folks?), I’m about to board! We have a layover tonight, so you may get a quickie post in the morning! If not, ¡adios! and I’ll see you next week!!!

Oh Happy Day!

I am feeling in such a good mood today! I have had some pretty serious posts lately, proof being that my daddy admits to crying in the library every time he reads one, so I wanted to create a more lighthearted post today!

Sooo…here are some things that are making me oh-so-happy today!

1. Every time I come home I have this pretty princess waiting for me! Awww!

The Cutest Doggie Ever

2. I get to move soon! Goodbye seventies wood-paneling and hello dishwasher!

3. New pretty nail polish! Woowee!

New Aqua Nail Polish

(I saw a color similar to this on Katie’s blog awhile back, and I had to have it!)

4. I am the new middle school volleyball coach where my hubby works! Yeah!

5. Mexico in seventeen days…with all my best friends and hubbies! Aaaahhhhh!

Beautiful Mexico Ocean

What is making you happy today?!

Soaps, Shoes, Swimsuits, and Baby Bottles?

It seems like I am always missing in action on the weekends. I had a busy, busy, busy weekend filled with so many fun things to do!

It all started on Friday (which was my LAST day of Basic Microbiology class! Yay!) and the first thing on my agenda was to have lunch with my awesomely talented momma! We went to a restaurant where you go through a buffet line and create your own stir-fry type entree. You pick your meats, then your veggies, fruits or other “toppings”, then you pick your sauces and seasons. Then they cook it right in front  of you…YUM! As always, when I meet with my momma, she has a new soap from her soap line, and this time it was lemonade! Double YUM!(Please ignore the messy edges…they were stuck bouncing around in my purse all weekend!) She also gave me a bayberry spice soap to give to the hubs!

After lunch I went shopping. My mom and I split ways because my mom hates shopping with me and I am the PICKIEST shopper in the world! I was on a mission for a new swimsuit (which had the possibly of being a catastrophic event) for my upcoming trip to Mexico, sunglasses, and new running shoes.

As picky as I am, I ended up finding two swimsuits! SCORE! This one is from Target and on clearance!

And this one came from American Eagle…The sunglasses are from Aerie.

Now I must say, running shoe shopping was much more stressful than swimsuit shopping. I went to a running specialty store where they watched me walk and measured my feet, then provided me with the shoes that would be best for me. When the salesmen saw what shoes I had been running in, I think he almost croaked! Maybe that explains the knee pain? After finally deciding on a pair, I was given terrifying news…

…they didn’t come in pink.

I asked them to hold the shoes for me, because I wanted to look at others stores and hopefully find a pair that I loved just as much, but that were pink. I ended up finding a pair of pink and white asics at another store and bought them. Then I kept wondering to myself if they really were as comfortable as the shoes from the first store. Oh no…I didn’t think they were…did I make the wrong decision?!?! (I’ll have to tell you about my wedding dress experience similar to this one, HA!)

So, what did I do? I put on the pink pair that I’d already bought, then I walked back into the store that had the blue asics. I took one pink shoe off and put one blue shoe on and compared. They shoe expert was right…the blue pair was so much more comfortable…they were like walking on clouds!

So I bought the blue pair and returned the pink pair. If I’m going to run 26.2 miles, I guess comfort is more important than cuteness…They are still pretty cute…they’re more of a purple than a blue, which is good in my books. Maybe I’ll just buy some pink shoe laces to spruce them up a bit 🙂

The next day I sold some appliances. HAHA! That’s what I do for part time work right now. Can you imagine that?…me?…selling washers and dryers?! I can’t either! But that’s what I do!

After work, the hubby and I headed over to our friends Casey and Seth’s house for dinner club! (I will have to tell you more about dinner club another time…it is great!) We were also celebrating that two of our dinner club friends are having little baby boys soon! Yay! To help them celebrate, all the husbands got to do something really cute…(Notice what is in all of their hands?)Too funny! I LOVE IT!

This weekend I also received some more donations for Girls on the Run, and I had my first donation from a reader! Thank you Carly CarlyBananas! I can’t tell you how thankful I am! I am so close to reaching the minimum amount that I need to raise, but as you may know, I like to smash goals! Please help me by spreading the word! Thank you so so so so so much!

How was your weekend?!
